    FAQ

    Questions, answered.

    Do you guarantee grades?

No — no one can, and you should be skeptical of anyone who says otherwise. We identify issues, prepare your cards properly, and give you an honest prediction based on experience, but final grades are determined solely by the grading company.

What types of cards do you work on?

Sports cards — modern and vintage — and TCG including Pokémon, One Piece, Dragon Ball, and more. Not sure about your card? Reach out and ask before you ship.

What don't you clean or alter?

We never alter a card. Cleaning is strictly surface-level — fingerprints, dust, wax residue, and debris. We don't trim, recolor, or do anything a grading company would consider card doctoring.

Who pays grading and shipping fees?

You do — grading company fees, shipping, and insurance are billed separately, separate from the prep fee. Full-service submissions add a $1 per card data entry fee which covers researching the variations and looking up the exact match. The $10/card prep fee covers evaluation, cleaning, and sleeving.

What happens if you recommend not grading a card?

Nothing gets submitted without your approval. If we don't think a card will grade well, we say so in your evaluation — you can submit it anyway, or have it shipped straight back to you. You only pay grading fees on cards you choose to submit.

    Are my cards insured?

Yes — your cards are insured while at our facility, and outbound shipments to the grading companies are insured as well (billed separately). For the trip to us, ship with a tracked, insured carrier.

Can you submit cards that are already slabbed?

Yes — that's called a reholder: the grading company puts your card in a fresh case. Since there's no evaluation or prep work to do, only the $1 per card data entry fee applies.

Can you crack cards out of slabs for resubmission?

Yes. We can evaluate the card in its slab first, so you know whether resubmitting is worth it before anything irreversible happens. If you go ahead, we carefully remove the card and clean and prep it like any raw card. Cracking is $5 per card on top of the standard prep fee.

    How do I track progress?

Everything lives in your portal: evaluation results, approvals, submission status, and tracking, updated live from the day your cards arrive to the day your slabs come home.

How does GradingPrep's card grading prep work?

It's a four-step mail-in workflow: ship your cards with any tracked, insured carrier; we evaluate every card under magnification, clean it, and sleeve it; you review our grade predictions and pick what to submit; we handle the submission and your slabs ship home.

    What does grading prep cost?

$10 per card with no minimums. Bulk discounts apply automatically based on your rolling 12-month spend: 10% off at $250, 20% off at $500, and 30% off at $1,000.

Which grading companies does GradingPrep submit to?

PSA, BGS (Beckett), SGC, and CGC. You pick the grading company and service level after we send back our evaluation report.

What's included in the $10 per card prep fee?

Precision cleaning, surface evaluation under magnification, an expert grade prediction (with subgrade estimates for BGS submissions), archival Card Saver I sleeving, and white-glove handling end to end.

How long does the prep evaluation take?

Evaluations move quickly — cards are typically evaluated within a few days of arriving at our facility. After that, turnaround depends on the grading company service level you select.
